The Consultation
Before your first appointment you will be asked to fill out the confidential health questionnaire and a three-day food diary.
The questionnaire asks about your medical history, health concerns and symptoms, dietary habits and lifestyle. You will also be asked for details of any medication and/or nutritional supplements you are taking and the results of any recent medical tests you have taken.
Completing this beforehand saves time in the consultation and means more time can be spent on explanation and preparing your individual programme so you get the maximum benefit and value from your consultation.
You can request an appointment here.
The first consultation:
The first consultation lasts 60-80 minutes and is divided into three areas:
- Further fact finding when more detail is gathered on your symptoms, health goals, lifestyle, food preferences, cooking ability, time and financial constraints to get a full assessment of your health and the possible underlying causes.
- Explanation of how aspects of your diet and lifestyle may be affecting your health and how it might be improved. Occasionally it may be necessary to suggest diagnostic testing either by your GP on the NHS or a reputable private laboratory we work closely with to investigate your health further (at extra cost to the consultation fee). This will also be discussed and the results can be reviewed in the follow up consultation.
- Development of an action plan - where we work together to develop your individual diet and lifestyle plan, and if necessary supplements, for improving your health taking into account your budget and lifestyle. Recommendations are backed up with relevant handouts to provide further information for future reference and to help you achieve your plan.
The follow up consultation:
This consultation last 30-45 minutes and typically take place 4 weeks after the initial consultation.
The aim of this consultation is to monitor your progress, review your diet and lifestyle plan and any diagnostic tests carried out since the previous consultation. Necessary adjustments can be made to your plan to ensure maximum benefit.
Generally only one follow up consultation is required but for certain health issues additional consultations may be necessary to ensure continued improvement.
Confidentiality:
All information provided by you is completely confidential and will not be shared with any third party without your prior consent.
In some circumstances it may be necessary to contact your GP and your permission will be sought for this.
Advice provided is not as a substitute for professional medical treatment and it is recommended that clients inform their GP or specialist medical practitioner about the Nutritional Therapy treatment they are receiving, particularly if they are taking supplements which may react with conventional medical drugs and/or treatment.
